LFTC 12-for-12 Challenge

On Saturday 18th April, we’re looking to raise as much money as possible for PPE for our frontline workers by completing a 12-hour cycling challenge – that’s one hour for every hour of a standard NHS shift.

What is it?

What exactly does this mean?

We will be cycling as far as we can individually in 12 hours on a turbo trainer (no outdoor cycling allowed unless! it’s static) #stayathome

It’ll definitely be a challenge but we want to do our bit to help those who are risking their lives on the frontline and… do we have anything better to do?

When?

Beginning Saturday 18th April at 07.00 and ending at 19.00 that same day.

Can I watch or ride along for part of the challenge?

YesWe’d love to see as many of you as possible. We’ll be hosting a Zoom for the length of the challenge (meeting details below), and if you want to pop in and ride on Zwift with us, we’d love to see you on there.

How to ride with us

If you have any form of static bike you can ride with us on the day. You can join for the whole event but you are also welcome to join only parts of the event. We will use Zoom (see below) to keep everyone involved during the day, so it does not really matter whether you use Zwift or another system.

How to join on Zwift

Throughout the day we will organise a number of rides on Zwift (see program below!). To participate to group rides you need to be invited (and accept the invitations). The only way to currently be invited is by following the ride leader:

1) Ensure you follow Charlotte Bell [LFTC] before the start of the event.

2) Add “LFTC” to your Zwift name.

Charlotte will invite you to the meetups before their start and you can therefore join our virtual rides!

We want to be very mindful of everyone’s health and well-being at this time. Please join the challenge only if you are fit to participate and prioritise safety, strenuous exercising can affect your immune system.

Program for the day

6:45 Get ready to start – Join the Zoom Meeting and make sure you follow Charlotte Bell [LFTC] on Zwift. Accept the incoming invitations to the meetups to take part.

7:00 Off we go in Watopia with the Big Loop course

9:00 It’s a long day, let’s take it easy with Tempus Fugit.

10:00 Keep those legs spinning quickly up the climbs, doing the Tour of Fire and Ice.

12:00 After so much climbing, back to some more gentle roads on Figure 8.

13:00 How can you get tired of Watopia’s smooth tarmac? Out and back again.

15:00 The clock is ticking, Tick Tock!

16:00 Last three hours, a little bit more climbing with the Three Sisters.

18:00 Let’s Get The Party Started: DJ set by Rory on Zoom! Back to NY for Lady Liberty Grand Finale.

19:00 Done!
