LFTC’s Inaugural Hill Climbing Championships – Sunday 16th February, 10am, Swains Lane
So here it is, the event that everyone has been talking about since Christmas. We will be holding the first LFTC Hill Climbing Champs on Sunday 16th February!
The meeting point will be at the base of Swains lane (just before the pedestrian crossing, at the junction with Swains Lane and Brookfield Park) at 9:45am, ready for a prompt 10am start. This gives anyone who wants to ample time to attend the early morning swim session at the lido and then cycle over to Highgate. Riders will be started at 30 second intervals and have one attempt to race as fast as they can to the top of the climb; it’s as simple as that!
*IMPORTANT INFORMATION*
Although each rider will be provided with a time for their hill climb effort and a winner announced, this is an unofficial, non-organised event through the club and will be run very much like the Saturday morning rides; we will be cycling on public roads and you are responsible for adhering to the highway code, having a road worthy bike and bringing all of your own equipment including warm clothing, waterproofs, puncture repair kit, snacks, water etc etc (although pack light, it is a hill climbing race after all!) You enter at your own risk and the club takes no responsibility for any injury that arises from attending this event. It is not worth causing or being involved in an accident with a pedestrian or a vehicle just because you are trying for a fast time!
That being said, with a bit of common sense, we envisage this to be a great morning out with a healthy dose of friendly competition!
We are expecting the event to take no longer than an hour and are likely to go for a cake/coffee in one of the cafes at the bottom of Swains Lane after we finish (details TBA).
So come along, have a blast up Swains Lane and maybe you could be crowned King/Queen of the Mountain!
